Writing THE MAGI CHRONICLES

My file cabinet is filled with stories and plays and poems and books.  Although many have been presented on stage or published in magazines or told to  children this is the first one to be published as a book. I hope many more will  find homes in books!

Many of my stories come from personal experiences and THE MAGI CHRONICLES is no  different. I used the memories of summer vacations with my children in Panama  City in the book but the story came to me in quite a different way.

I was teaching in a small Christian school and telling stories to the  children. There were some boys in the classes who wanted to hear adventure  stories and science fiction stories. I loved to read adventure stories but had  never written one and I knew absolutely nothing about science fiction. On top of  that I knew that I was called to teach children about God and how could science  fiction possibly do that?

This was something I did not have an answer for. But God has the answer to  all questions. He says all we need to do is ask and he will give us the wisdom  we need. So, I asked. That night I prayed and asked the Lord to give me a story  for boys that had some science fiction in it. Then, I went to bed and slept very  soundly all night. When I opened my eyes the next morning this story was in my  head. It was all there from beginning to end. All I had to do was write it down.  I began to write. It was harder than I thought! I told the story to the children  and they loved it but I couldn’t get it right on paper. It took a very long time and a lot of rewriting to do that. But  here it is. I hope you enjoy it.
