God Sparks ........................................................

This is the page where we have some fun while we use our imagination to think creatively. We have only one rule. You must never color inside the lines! This is an outside-the-lines kind of website!

Genesis 1 tells the story of how God created the heavens and the earth. Then he created people in His own image. So, we were created by God to have the same creative spark that God used to create all things. Wow! That’s why I call this fun page God Sparks.

Silly Jokes

Silly jokes are good for getting us loosened up so our brains won’t be so up tight that it only thinks of things we’ve already thought of. What fun is that? We need to let our brains laugh and get all those old cobwebs cleaned out so it can start sparking new ideas.

How many balls of string would it take to reach the moon?
Just one if it’s long enough!

What happens if you throw a green stone into the Red Sea?
It gets wet!

How can an elephant hide in a strawberry patch?
By painting his toenails red!

I know, those were too silly. You can do much better. Maybe you could send me your favorite silly jokes and we could put them here on the webpage.

In Georgia it is already hot and when it is hot we want a cold drink to help us cool off. Sodas are not good for you. They have too much sugar. Cola is not good for you either. Here is a refreshing drink that is easy to make and good for you, too.

1. Mix together in a tall glass:

  • 2 ounces of pomegranate juice (or orange, cherry, or grape)
  • juice of ½ lemon (or a big squirt of lemon juice from a bottle)
  • ¼ teaspoon Stevia extract

2. Fill glass with very cold plain or carbonated water.
3. Stir well, add ice cubes if desired, and enjoy.

Note:

Stevia is a plant that is 30 times sweeter than sugar but is good for you. If you don‘t have Stevia you can use other sweeteners.
I like to use either distilled water or Perrier (if I want it fizzy) but you can use water straight from the faucet.

Camp Craft

Summer is here and school is out so it is a perfect time for families to go camping. But even if you don’t go camping building a brush shelter is a great way to have fun in the woods. It is also a great thing to know in case you ever need to survive in the wilderness.

Brush shelters were used by many of the Indian tribes when they went on long hunting trips. The Apaches sometimes used them as their only home. They are easy to build and quick to put up. A brush shelter is small. It is not made to stand up in but should have just enough room to sleep in.

There are several kinds of brush shelters. One is started by standing poles up like teepee poles. Another is called a wickiup. It is like a little cave. A third way is to set up poles like a tent. A fourth way is to make a lean to. I like to set my poles against a big tree or the side of a little cliff. That way I already have one side built. It is solid and I feel safer.

Brush shelters are generally made with squaw wood, that is wood that you find lying on the ground. You can make a brush shelter without any tools.

Be sure you don’t build your brush shelter underneath a dead tree or one in which large limbs may fall on it. Also, don’t make it where rocks may fall. Choose level ground so you can lie down comfortably. Clear away any rocks or sticks. Make sure you don’t make it where water may get in. If it should rain you can toss a poncho or a piece of plastic across the shelter and stay cozy and dry. If it looks like rain dig a little trench at least three inches deep around the shelter with a run-off ditch so that the water will run away from the shelter to the lowest part of the ground.

After the poles are set up take smaller sticks, leafy branches or vines and weave them into the poles to make a base. When that is done you just toss a lot of leaves or grass onto the shelter. Use as much as is needed to make a safe place to spend the night.

Before you go in to sleep in the shelter make sure there are no little critters or slithering things or biting bugs in the shelter with you! My son once had a visit by a skunk and thankfully stayed really still till the critter had satisfied his curiosity and left.

This is an especially easy and comfortable shelter even in the fall and winter. You just throw on a big pile of leaves as insulation and it will be warm as toast in your little brush shelter.

Brush Shelter Construction

1. Begin a tepee brush shelter with three poles with y shapes at the end. Add others till it is full enough to begin weaving and adding brush, leaves and grass.

2. Begin the wickiup with three poles and let the third pole be longer than the first two so that it is shaped like a cone. Add more poles, then weave and add leaves, grass and brush.

3. The lean-to can be started with two poles at each end and a long pole laid across them. Other poles are then leaned against the long pole. Weaving and leaves, brush and grass are then added.

4. A tent-shaped brush shelter can be made by adding poles and brush to the other side of the lean-to.

5. Using a cliff with no loose rocks overhead or a stout tree with no dead branches overhead as the beginning can be fun, also.
